Manual calculations are sometimes requested in preference to FEA techniques and we are experienced in their use and application using tools such as Mathcad and Excel. We have developed and streamed lined Excel tools to perform common repetitive tasks, i.e. bolted joints, fatigue damage, weld strength, …. etc.
Whilst finite element analysis methods are used for the many of our work tasks these days’ manual calculation methods still form a crucial part of our service for items that are not readily suitable for FEA, i.e. bolted joint integrity, pin / boss acceptance calculations and weld strength.
Manual calculations are regularly performed as scale of magnitude checks in line with the FEA results for checking purposes and to determine / derive load cases.
